Summary
Julie will demonstrate step by step how to bend and weave the willow to make the randomly woven bird and help any participant who would like help. This is a 3D sculpture, approximately 15cms long from beak to tail and approximately 20cms high from the bottom of the wood base to the top of the birds back. You will have the opportunity to weave two birds in the workshop and choose one to mount on a wood block. The final mini bird can be used as an ornament to admire in the home or a sheltered area of the garden.
What you’ll do
Julie will bring a selection of willow and demonstrate the steps to make your very own mini bird. Firstly you will bend the willow to make the legs of the bird and fold and wrap the willow around the top of the legs to create a body, and further bending and wrapping to make the tail, beak and head. This is a creative process and you might like to have a picture or image of a small bird you would like to recreate or you can copy from the example birds Julie will bring. You will have the opportunity to make a second bird and choose one to mount on a wood block for display if wanted. The birds will dry at home and can be used as an ornament for inside the home or treated once dry to place somewhere sheltered in the garden.
What to bring
Yourself and an apron
What you’ll get
